I managed to go a whole winter not break a single pane and then loose 3 all in one go (staging gave way). Last year I replaced 2 panes with clear plastic and while it does flex a lot more in the wind its secured very well with the standard M clips. I am considering this option again but I just wondered if anyone else has tried this?

Plastic v glass
As pigletwillie says plastics all seem to go opaque and brittle, though I have one exception, so far. Some vandals donated a sheet of plastic from a phonebox over our site fence, I adopted it and it seems to be one of the vandal-proof plastics , they managed to get it out of the phonebox without damage. However I do not see a way of getting more without turning vandal myself .
Slightly off-topic , but flexible plastic sheeting is a no no on our site. I replaced the opaque and tattered top of my wooden coldframe with new shiney clear plastic membrane and with two days the crows had walked and pecked it to shreds, I saw them doing it the second day.Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.
