I have had peppers in the greenhouse all winter. They have been ripening slowly and are now starting to flower again. I have an oil-filled radiator thingy in there which (hopefully) keeps it frost free.

Get a max-min thermometre - put the heater on for one night (a cold night for pref.) If there is frost on the ground but the temp on the greenhouse stays at 8 deg. C or over them yes - you can move your seedlings out. Make sure the glass is clean and consider putting a cover such as fleece both under and over the plants if a heavy frost is forcast to be sure of protecting them.

One thing if your heater involves a flame of any sort please be very careful where you put it - you don't want a fire!
The weeks and the years are fine. It's the days I can't cope with!

took my peppers down the tunnel today for some sunshine and heat instead of of windowsill, in 3.5 inch pots and in cat litter trays. Decided to use my heater in the greenhouse and someone also give me one tonight, left them both on very low and put my peppers in there, covered by light fleece. The temp was 15 to 16 c at 6.00 pm when I left. My grenhouse is 6 by 4 and 3/4 of it is covered in bubblewrap except for the south facing side and door.

            Hi Cede,

If you have electric in your G/H or polytunnel you can't do better than a Parwin heater. THey aren't cheap but they have the great advantage that if the heating element blows you can buy a new one off them and replace it yourself. My friend has two that are 40+ years old and still going strong and he had to replace the thermostat on one and an element on the other so I think they have paid for themselves times over.

If you don't have electric then there are some good Calor gas heaters for sale that have a termostat on them but if you are going to get one of these I'd advise a auto changeover valve and a second bottle as sods law says your bottle of gas will run out on the coldest night of the year

They always advocate having a window open a crack to ventilate the CO from the hose but in my experience I've yet to come across and airtight greenhouse - both of mine allow more than enough air in !

Been using to heater down in my greenhouse since monday in the night only except for thursday and yesterday during the day where I used one. tuesday and wednesday when it was sunny the peppers went in the tunnel for the day

One of my heaters is a twin and the other is just one and have had then on a very low flame. I have been checking the temps on the way to work in the morning at 6.30 where it has been about 10c and in the evening on the way home and it has been about 14c. Last I had only one working as i screwd the wick down to far and it cold this morning.

How long to wicks last, and how long does 4 ltrs of parafin last

Kerosene and paraffin are very similar, if not almost the same. So I wouldn't worry.
