  • What to plant and when...

    Hi again

I now have my greenhouse constructed, along with a raised bed to move stuff to that will want it, and plant directly in later on. Now the greenhouse is unheated for the time being, so what would it be worth planting at the moment?

I have chillis, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, climbing french beans, marrows, squash, leeks, lettuces, spring onions - I think that's it (for now!)

I can germinate things inside, but things like carrots, if I plant in a tub in the greenhouse, would they grow? I know there is going to be a lot of trial and error (and there is bound to be a lot of error! ), but hopefully some words of wisdom might cut out some of the error!

    Thanks in advance!
Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're probably right!

I wouldn't try to start tender crops (peppers, chillis, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, french beans etc) in an unheated greenhouse at the moment. End of March is probably a better bet but you will still have to keep them cosy at night (depending on the temperatures). You could start these off inside now if you have the room, but they will need a lot of light.

For outside, I suggest that you stick to some of the tougher stuff - lettuce, spring onions, cabbages, cauliflowers and carrots.
