  • Green algae stuff

Could any of you nice people who have greenhouses tell me how I could stop green slimy algae forming on top of the compost in pots. Its even rotted some plants last year. The only way I could help the plants was to scrap the algae off the top and cover the top with Vermiculite but even that started to turn green. Any ideas?

I'd guess that the greenhouse needs a bit more ventilation, Jana?

Is it possible that the compost is also too wet, as well as needing ventilation.

more ventilation needed & the increased ventilation will stop the build up of condensation which wets your compost

Basically your compost is too wet and there is not enough airflow (ventilation) to dry it out at this time of year. If you get a day where the temperature is above 5 degrees, then open the greenhouse doors and windows for at least an hour or so to keep things moving.
