  • G/house cleaning

Presumably as I had tomato blight in my G/house last year I stand a good chance of getting it again this year? If so, what should i use to clean the inside of the house?

A dash of Fairy and some warm water.

Blight spores only survive on infected plant material - unless you have rotting potatoes/ tomatoes in there, the infection will not still be around.

Thats reassuring, i thought the spores would linger. I came across some ***** fluid granules the other day. Would it be a good idea to have a sprinkle?

One sad thing, I think, about cleaning out a greenhouse is that it can kill the spiders... which is a shame as they do good work for us.

***** fluid is my favourite - smells good and does the job. Blight apparently survives on diseased plant material and compost, so provided you get rid of all that and give the greenhouse a good clean you should be OK.

If you're worried about using *****, try Citrox - you don't need to remove any existing plants when using it. Can also be used for 'washing' cuttings etc.

I always used to use ***** for cleaning my greenhouse and bleach brushed into the cracks between the glass to get rid of the green stuff that grew there. Without Greenhouse at moment - anybody got one they don't want?

I use used vinegar~. It's cheap , cleans glass perfectly without smears, it's cheap and the smell goes quickly. And it disinfects as well...

When I clean my mums windows she still gives me a bowl of warm water with vinegar in it and a chamois leather, when she was fit enough to do them herself she would use newspaper instead of chamois. Try a book called 'Vinegar 1001 uses' and you'll never want to buy another bottle of anything other than vinegar ever again.

i have just put the glass in my dads old greenhouse taken from moms house and loving put in mine. i go to horticultural college and one of my fellow students grows dahlias fora living and for shows.

he told me to use armalitox for cleaning glass and pots and everything basically as it doesnt need scrubbing and kills all known germs dead!! lol
i bought some from local garden centre and it was fab as dont think dad cleaned glass for years. needs no washing off and isnon chemical based.

dilution 1-5 so bottle goes a long long way.
