  • Sticky Tape

I have a bit of a large rip in the back wall of the polytunnel which I mended with a combination of polytunnel tape and duck tape. Unfortunately it has not held well at all, even the duck tape has started to come away.

Does anyone know of a good tape that would stick it up.

Unfortunately, this back wall faces east, and whilst we don't get much wind from the east, when it does it rushes down the brick wall behind and onto the back wall. It is rather close. Was wondering whether to plant a bit of open fencing between the wall and the polytunnel, although it is only about 4 feet wide. Mind you that could cause an even bigger hole if it went through it!

Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn't know that so it goes on flying anyway.

Jennie I have seen No Nails sold as tape - double sided I think. Would that be strong enough?

Jennie. Did you clean the area round the tear before putting the sticky tape on?
I had a similar problem a year or two ago with a plastic greenhouse. The tape just would not stay put. I then removed the old tape and cleaned the area with white spirit and washed it with soapy water. Once dry the new tape stayed firmly in place. In fact I now think it is the strongest part of the greenhouse.

Good point Jaxom - thanks very much. I didn't clean it as I tried to fix it in a hurry, although I thought OH and I had done a reasonable job either side, but its a good point about cleaning.

And thanks Lesley too. Never heard of No Nails.

Jennie No Nails is a high strength adhesive that sticks just about anything down without the need to use any nails or screws so it should be perfect for your polytunnel.

How old is your plastic? 5 years is about what they expect before it "dies"
