back wall in the greenhouse

Hi all

I have a lean to greenhouse, south facing, which backs onto my garage wall.

The brickwork is a sort of sandy colour. Would I get any benefit if I was to paint the wall white?

Any advice gratefully accepted.

white is a really good reflective colour (if white is a colour) so painting the wall will mean more light reflected back into the greenhouse.

On my plot i have a greenhouse which backs onto a fence and then woodland, I've had a few panes break and swapped them for glass from the back nearest the fence. As these are replaced I fill in gaps with white panels (w/proof hardboard painted glossy white) this has improved the available light enormously.

I wouldn't have thought light would have been an issue on a South facing wall?
The existing wall (not painted white) will be warmer and absorb heat through the day letting it out slowly through the night I would have thought!

Snadger's right - it's a light vs. warmth question. If you want warmth overnight, best to allow the wall to absorb heat which it then releases overnight. If you really think that light is an issue, then having a white wall could help, but you'll also be reflecting heat so you'll forgoe the overnight warmth.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't take into account the benefit I already get from the reflected heat- I'll leave it as it is.
