A single run of armoured cable and one or two sockets?.....I'll have a guess at about £150-£200. You should be prepared to dig a trench for the cable if required. No point paying a qualified electrician to dig a hole!
That seems a bit pricey, is that Essex prices (we used to live near Danbury)? Or is armoured cable very expensive?

I wish the regs were in force when the dude that lived in the house before us was building the extension. Some rather strange wiring going on in places.
When we wired the electricty supply in for the garden year before last we ran a cable between 12" and 18" under ground, buried within a pipe thingy wotsit (ribbed thing that I'm sure PW will provide the correct name for) that comes in different colours for different services. We also laid some warning "tape" just below the surface of the soil so that if we (or someone after us) ever dig there again and have forgotten where the pipe is, we'll know before we get a jolt.
Scottish Electric quoted me £7500 to connect and run an armoured supply cable from the nearest transformer (300metres away) to let me have power in my shed and p/tunnel. That price included me digging the track and backfilling it for them - told them where they could get off and bought a genny instead.
we paid a sparky £150 for an armoured cable to the shed (six metres) one outdoor socket on the side of the house, two double sockets in the shed and a light. we had to dig in the cable but then at that price i didn't mind. a real bargain and now the guy has done five other houses on our little estate as word got round

As a fellow sparky I agree with pigletwillie of £200 - £300 pounds .. By the time you pay for cable, sockets, isolation equipment with RCD at mains, labour and the all important certification. That price does not sound a lot for a peace of mind.
Also here is an all important quote from the Electrical Safety Council 'It's easy to make an electrical circuit work- its far harder to make it work safely'
Gee whiz, Have I been ripped off. I've just had electricity put into a new shed, just a few feet from the house. 1 light switch, 2 double sockets, 1 strip light, circuit breakers etc.
Was charged £350 for materials
£400 for labour
It's a good looking job but did I pay too much.

Alice that sounds a bit hefty .. was one electrician there for around a day and a half to two days?
Materials also sound very pricey but really depends on exactly what you got.
With any electrical work done always ask for certification to show that what has been done has been tested to BS7671 ( currently the 16th edition regulations but the 17 edition come into effect from july)
Two electricians were here for 5 hours each (I made it) but the charge was for 12 hours labour. (Maybe I have to pay for their lunch break and holidays).
After the job was done they told me there was NO EARTH WIRE in the house and the estimate to rectify this is £800. (Seems to be the standard charge for anything)
I've already paid £400 deposit on this work but nothing is happening as they say they are waiting for Hydro to do something about the PME. It wasn't the way I read their letter - to me reads like the hydro are waiting for them to confirm work conforms to part 16 and that 16mm earth wiring is in position.

Hi Ally, £800 seems a lot to me too, but seems to be the charge to get anything done with that company and WHO ELSE WILL DO IT !. Tradesmen all say yeah, yeah , yeah then don't turn up or whatever. Will PM you tomorrow.
