  • Greenhouse Shading

    Hi

As some of you know I have a greenhouse YEAH and my toms are in there and am a bit cus it isnt that warm here, but they are inisde a lil plastic greenhouse (zip broke on one side) and covered with fleece, so fingers crossed.

Now where am I? Oh yeah, shading, have been reading about "greenhouse curtains" and wondering as my GH is polybicarbonate, will i need to get GH curtains? and the bits I just chucked away that were stuck to the panels.. could i have used them? not that i can as they are gone, but if i hadn't thrown them away.. would they have done the job? assuming that it is something i will have to do in the height of summer

Fleece makes good shading if you can prevent it blowing away.

You are aiming to cut down on the full rays of the sun on your plants to prevent scorch and maintain a cionstant temp in your glasshouse.

thanks seasprout.. have lots of fleece but keeping it in place may be a nightmare .. so even though its a polycarbonate it still needs shading/curtains?

Hi i am Colin also from Glamorgan Caerphilly to be exact and i have a greenhouse 8' by 6' stood on breeze blocks i can't complain about the heat as my greehouse catches the sun now at approx 7am and the other day was 100f luckily i did not loose any seedlings due to scorching as i was caught out as i did not expect such a temperature at this time of the year. Yet the next day it was freezing outside in the wind but still very hot in the greenhouse. Last year i used old curtains to shade my plants and also one of the best is old net curtains so i will have to get them up asap. With my greenhouse plastic cream sheets were supplied as a roof but with the winds we experience up here it would tear them to bits so i invested in plastic panels from B & Q. I am now going to screw these under the roof panels to provide shading and also heat insulation.
