  • 6' x 4' Walk-in Plastic Greenhouse

    Hello

I am thinking of getting one of these greenhouses. Does anyone have any experience with these, pros and cons, what can I grow in it (have tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines, peppers, chillies to grow in containers)? Unfortunately, our house is rented so can't get a greenhouse until we get on the property ladder Any feedback will be great. Also, will I be able to use it during winter?

I have a glass greenhouse that as the glass breaks is being replaced with perspex, I grow cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers very well in this and my cactus is in my greenhouse all year and flowers every spring as I start watering it so you should be successfull

I had one of those year before last. It was brilliant until the late autumn/early winter winds ripped it to shreds. I grew cucumber, tomato, chilli and sweet peppers in it.

Mine only lasted 2 years unfortunately - It was in a sheltered position, but the wind still managed to rip it down. This was not so much of a problem with the cover, but after a while the sun degrades the plastic joints & they ended up cracking & no amount of superglue could keep it intact. In hindsight I should have trenched in the sides of the greenhouse so it couldn't get blown about ( guy ropes are ok but not much use in the middle of winter). On the plus side, it was great in good weather - toms, cucumbers, hardening off etc & good for overwintering tender perennials - but not in severe frosts. Currently using the left over debris as beanpoles & a mini cloche, so not a total waste!!

We have one but the plastic that you push the metal rods in has broke the one at the bottom left hand corner and the middle one on the left so I have a feeling it is going to be a bit lop sided gong to try and bodge it some how
so be cearfull when putting it up
we had great toms out of it last year

            That's what I've got.

I also needed 2 rolls of gaffer tape and a stapler and some extra tent pegs but it does the job.

Thanks for your replies. I'm going go ahead and get one of these. I think two years use is better than nothing and hopefully it will mean my peppers and tomatoes will ripen better than they did last year.

we have one,its good for growing ,no good in a wind, the cover does break down after 3/4 years,it's best to store the cover over winter,as for the joints breaking, what my OH did was to cut a 2/3 inch of bamboo cane and after cleaning out the tubes ,push the cane into one end then the other,it is then splinted, what i would like to know is,can a replacement cover be got,a friend gave it us last year, the cuecumber plants grew like triffids as it was very humid, but is quite holy now.

I had one last year but due to the bad weather the poles got all broken so hubby made a new frame out of wood and worked great - if you buy one, you make sure its not in a windy area or it will last 5 mins if you have a bit of bad weather.

                          Poly Greenhouse

I've discovered it all in the make. I've currently got one made by spear and jackson and have had it for four year (yes have survived the gales of every winter) but before that I have one I got from B&Q I think and it disintegrated pretty fast. Look at the plastic that a good sign of the quality.
