Hello I am new to this forum so if I have posted this in the wrong place please forgive me, I have recently taken on an allotment although been growing at home until I run out of space and too much tree shade! I have built a shed out of fence panels and have put a window in the door(I know slightly strange place but was easily then cutting into the panels) I have made a base and was wondering if I was to put a clear plastic roof on it do you think I could raise plants from seeds and use it as a shed/greenhouse. Would welcome any help or advise, maybe someone else has put a clear roof on a shed before????

You could most certainly use it as a potting shed and for raising seedlings as they do tend to get leggy if too warm and in direct sunlight anyway.Rat

Nothing to lose - at least your shed will be nice and light over the summer months so no need to worry about electricityRat

Welcome to the Vine Peppa. I'm not sure what you are planning. Rat certainly knows what he is talking about - BUT - where are you in the country ? If you go into your personal profile you can let us all know.
How hot will it be in that shed with a clear roof. It might work if you want to start things very early in the year. By now it gets very hot - I'm finding the conservatory is too hot for seedlings.
Think about what you want to grow and how early you want to start them - and where you will put them after they have germinated. Sorry, I think I have given you more questions than answers. Maybe other Grapes have more experience, or suggestions for tis one.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Hello Alice I live in Suffolk and I was more worried that they would not have enough light as the sides and back are fence panels, but your reply made something click!!at home in my summerhouse I have a huge grapevine growing happily under a clear roof and it has large windows front and back so I am feel confidant that my clear roof shed will work fine and will not get so hot as that does. I have cold frames and greenhouses at home (5 mins from plot) so I can take the seed trays home easily if needed, thanks for your reply
