Well I bit the bullet and painted on the shading today, had to use an old vileda mop out of the garage to reach the top panes though. Hope it comes off easily. 38 degrees in the greenhouse with the door and window wide open so hope this will make a difference.

the same here, almost 50,with everything open and shading, and damping down, phew
was just thinking,as hot air rises, wonder if it would make much difference in temperature if green houses were made with more roof vents/openings,especially if we can expect this heat more oftenLast edited by lottie dolly; 11-05-2008, 02:09 PM.sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these

One bit of advice - when the temperature rises keep everything - seedlings and all - down as low as you can, i.e. on the ground in trays. I find - simple physics made real - that it is a little cooler at ground level. Put as many trays of water around as you can, too - the evaporation and extra humidity is helpful.
Having said all that, I took EVERYTHING (all plants) out of the greenhouse yesterday. You can tell things aren't right when the plants refuse to take up water - they basically shut down.
Remember that pollen from tomatoes effectively dies above 40 degrees so you can find problems with fruit setting - they much prefer a temperature in the 20's.
