I will be sowing the following this month and next: basil, cucumber, parsnip, romanesco, coriander, French beans, radish, beetroot etc etc.
But not in the greenhouse ~ it's fullAll gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Get down to the local GC and buy some tomatop, cucumber, aubergine and pepper / chillie plants and get them planted in now, they'll be a bit behind, but you should get some crops and at least you'll have something growing!Blessings

You can start off seed in your greenhouse for outdoor crops too - I dont know why, but i never direct sow into the ground - I can't trust the ground I'm working with not to choke the poor seeds with weeds. I'm still trying to fix my 'plot'.
So, I sow all of my seeds in the greenhouse, then try and harden them off, if the weathers still a bit cold.
Good luck with your new greenhouse!!

I'd go with melon, a la smallblueplanet! Just think how proud you'll be when you produce something that exotic!
Also anything available from the garden centre - I'm still planting rooted tomato off -shoots.
Good luck, there is always winter salad.

Salad leaves and quick growing crops are good - you can always get late sowings to produce a good crop too - I've sown a second batch of leeks, runner beans, french beans, lettuce and calabrese recently.
Have fun - and remember, it's all a learning experience!!!

beetroot does not like being disturbed, but it is possible as i've tried it out this year. Sow in small seperate seed pots(i got mine from local Aldi store - 40 2inch pots in a tray for £2.99), thin out as they grow until you have a single plant per pot. This will ensure that the root is not disturbed when you plant out. i hardened mine off by putting them in a opened top cold frame/ box for a few days before planting. The good point is that you do not have to thin them out as they grow because you can plant them about 5 inches apart. the bad point, the beet root i sowed direct in the ground have grown quicker than the ones started in the green house!Last edited by Andrew in Cardiff; 22-06-2008, 10:21 AM.
