The bamboo and pipe method is great cos as eskymo said you can make to what ever height you want. You can cover with net, sunshade netting, fleece, old net curtains....anything you want really. The £land cloches worked just as well as my more expensive ones(a lot more expensive!)

I found this method while browsing the other day; hope it's of use to you.

dear ian p, i too have used the water pipe method. I used the white firm 25mm. pipi onto canes, then pushed grey flexible 15mm. pipe into the tops to form the arch. spread fine agrimesh over the top securing with cable ties. Needed two lengths of mesh to cover up and over. all holes secured with cable ties or weighted down with wood planks along the edges.
My next door allotmenteer has gone one better by slotting the white pipe into metaltubes on the outside of the raised beds, then securing them withlong strong cable ties.

Great ideas here! I was just wondering if I could get some cheap cloches (I don't use enough plastic bottles - been saving them all summer and still don't have enough bottle cloches for my overwintering crops). I think I'll make pipe hoops instead as I have some leftover wood, canes and old hosepipe!

Hi Heebiejeebie - if you've got any neighbours with kids they're bound to use cordial, coke etc and I'm sure they'd only be too happy to give you the empties to save room in their bins
