I wouldn't like to say for certain, but when a sulphur candle is burned it gives off sulphur dioxide gas and this, in conjunction with water, will make sulphuric acid. Unfortunately sulphuric acid is used to harden the surface of and etch, polyethylene, so the chances are that it might well damage your cover as there is always some humidity in the air. Of course it's possible that this would occur in such small amounts as to make it irrelevant, but I'd consult the manufacturer before risking it.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
