I have an old greenhouse, brick base with wood structure on top. It was in a very dilapidated state, much glass gone but basically sound though some of the wood has rotted.
I'm trying to renovate it so have taken out all the remaining roof glass and am about to start stripping out the inside (both the wood staging and the blackberries/nettles) once I've done that I thought that I should put some form of wood preserver on the wood - do I need to be careful as to what I use any thoughts? Is there anything else I need to do to it?
Also can anyone suggest a good roofing material (not too expensive), the current glass is not even safety glass so I thought it best not to put what I have back, again can anyone suggest a suitable material?
    Many thanks

If you use something like Fence guard you should be OK. So long as its water based oddly enough

As to glazing materials Twin wall poly carb would be safe but doesn't transmit the light as well as glass which is important in the early spring when your strying to get stuff growing . Also it's more expensive than Glass so it looks like glass is your best option

When you've sorted the frame & the glazing out I would advise linint it with the large bubble insulation, it will save you around 20% of the heating cost & being a wooden frame it's easy to pin it on. It's also easier to do it empty than when it's full of plants.

With regard to using a wood preservative, Caroline, what the EU will not allow you to use (even if you could get it) is creosote.

I believe its detrimental to plants anyway
