  • When can i pick my tomato?

    Hi there,

newbie here - i have a tomato (freakishly as it's the only one) thats now red on my plant - when do i pick this? or does it fall?

    many thanks,
    Neil

p.s. - Its gardeners delight variety i think - smallish.

If it's red then you can pick it now. Enjoy.

But once you've eaten it - you'll be hooked on tomato growing!

If it's anything like our garden, eat it now or some other family member will amble past and nab it!

I pick when red, or nearly red but soft to the touch.

No point picking them too early, as that's what the supermarkets do because they have to "get red while they travel", which has to effect flavour. But leave them too long and they will be overripe.

Garden's Delight are nice and small. I normally eat a couple whilst watering the greenhouse in the morning - part of my five-a-day!

And let us know when you've eaten it and what you thought, because eating your own home grown tomatoes, straight from the plant, is heaven!

I'm dithering about picking my first yellow tomato, but I think I'll be patient , maybe tomorrow!

You can pick it and eat it as soon as you can make the sacrifice Mailme.

Gardeners Delight They've been more than disappointing for me. I've got about 6 fruits on 1 plant. But Ildi, Red Cherry and Tigeralla are all doing great outdoors.
