All summer, I battled with whitefly in my greenhouse. Apparently, its been a real problem this year in this neck of the woods (Surrey). Eventually, I cleared everything out of my greenhouse and left it empty for a month or two. Meanwhile, in the garden, some things were smoothered with the blasted things.
Then I sowed a few seeds and, since they showed their heads, I have been battling again with whitefly, although to a much lesser extent, and with the little black flies that lay their eggs in the soil. I tried all sorts of insect sprays without success. Then I tried bog standard household flyspray. Black flies - completely exterminated. Whiteflies much reduced.
I don't feel guilty about beneficial insects because there aren't any in the greenhouse at this time of year. Does anyone know of any reason why I shouldn't use this? I really want to get rid of the problem before bringing my fuscias etc in.
