  • Louvre vents and automatic opener

I would like to fit louvre vents with an automatic opener to my greenhouse. It seems they are not sold as a unit but rather separately. Why not ?

I can get the opener from Dobies but not the louvres. I'd like to get them together online and save on postage. Has anyone bought both the vent and louvre together and if so from where?

I bought the vents and opener from Focus. Good news is that the opener is only ~£7 but bad news is that the vents with polycarbonate louvres is ~£40 and they are only 24" wide. I have 30" width panes. Not sure what to do now as it seems the opener is specific to the vent. As I have some spare glass I could get this cut to the right width. Do you think the vent frame and opener can cope with the extra weight of glass?

You may want to change the fitting where the arm of the louvre fits onto the opener, if it is like mine it is made of plastic and pops out when the weather is hot, changed mine for a metal bolt

Think that mine came from either Homebase or B&Q but it was a fair few years ago now. The fitting which PaulW refers to was metal on that one.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Yes, I noticed it is a little flimsy, thanks for the advice. Do you think it can cope with glass in the louvres or would they be too heavy for the mechanism?

Mine has glass in the louvres which are the standard 2ft wide type.

IMO I shouldn't think the little bit of extra weight will cause a problem, the angle of the lift ( fulcrum and levers and all that ) makes it quite an easy manouvre for the opener to execute, If you make the alterations to the pin this will cope easily.
