Cleaning greenhouse with pressure washer ?

I have just got a pressure wahser and am wondering if it is ok to use it to clean my greenhouse. It has variable pressure so I could tone down the blast. anybody have any experience fo this ?

Domestic pressure washers are only effective at very close range, at a distance of 12" or so they have very little effect. Even so, with all that glass about I don't think I would risk it. Accidents with glass tend to be serious!

My brilliant man Trousers is an annual Wellie Greenhouse Blasterer, and very experienced he is now, having done it for at least 3 or 4 years now.
I can highly recommend it to clear out the proverbial cobwebs and all!

Thanks for that, Wellie. It has all the hallmarks of being a Man Thing and I shall set my OH at it soon. Some parts of my greenhouse are hard to get to as the shed is right next to it so I think a pressure washer might do the trick.

If the pressure is variable, and you set it fairly low, I found it very effective.

I pre-sprayed all the nooks and crannies with a weak bleach solution, to loosen the algae/moss etc., left it half an hour and then give it a good old sqirt. Makes a rotten, wet mess of you, but saves hours doing it by hand. Taping bin liners over your clothes helps, looks funny but keeps you relatively dry

If you spray bleach between all the cracks and direct the pressure on low between where the panes overlap , it even gets out the green gungy bits, withot having to de-glaze.

I then add a fresh lot of ***** fluid to the detergent tank and spray over the whole lot to kill any lurking baddies, leave for 15 minutes and finish with a cold water rinse.

Personally I wouldn't, I tend to use a brush on the end of the hose pipe (you know one of those that are aimed at cleaning upstairs windows) but if you're going to I suggest that you make sure that all your panes are well fixed before you start. Obviously I know but would be the sort of thing which I'd forget to do!

No problem. I have done it for a few years now with great success.

I use jayes fluid can not use a pressure washers on the plot so its a bucket of cold water (or dont tell Mrs D take 3 flasks of hot water and put them in the bucket with the jays)
and wash by hand

As woofster says, it is definitely 'a man thing'.

OH sprays the inside of the greenhouse with dilute ***** or Armillatox (preferably *****). Leaves for about 24 hours, then uses the pressure sprayer to clean it out. Have found it very effective, particularly where the panes of glass overlap.
