  • Small plastic greenhouse

Often referred to on here as a "blowaway", on the grounds that is what happens when used outside more often than not, I use mine inside my glass greenhouse. Because the glasshouse is unheated, these perform the perfect task of being an unheated propagator and also as part of the hardening off process for stuff started in the conservatory(which is double glazed and frost free). Later when the weather warms up the plastic cover comes off and the shelves are a perfect place to put plants prior to going outside.

Wish I had a big enough greenhouse to put one in. Just missed out on a freebie being offered locally
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

I am now using this for my chillies and peppers, the top shelf has been removed and used as a double thickness for the middle one to hold the weight and to give the plants the height they need. Over night temperature in the greenhouse was 4 degrees, first positive temp in over 2 weeks, everything is doing quite well and it is starting to get crowded in there already.

Do you know what the outside and normal greenhouse temps were overnight? I'd be interested to see the difference.

The temp outside was 2 degrees colder than the temp in my greenhouse on average, the blowaway was around 3 degrees warmer than the greenhouse, this was on still frosty nights with no wind, minus 8 was our coldest outside temp, when the temp outside was above zero, the temp in the greenhouse was higher by 3 to 4 degrees, again with no significant wind blowing.

I seem to have about 2 degrees more in my unheated greenhouse too, so I'd be looking about about 3-4 more if I had a little blowaway in it...thanks, I shall keep my eyes open for one
