  • Tomato Plants

My Tomato Plants are growing quite tall on my windowsill so would it be okay if I moved them now to my greenhouse and maybe fleece them up at night time. I'm in Newcastle.

I have been putting "canary" plants out ahead of moving the bulk of them.
I now have one outside next to a row under plastic bottles.
The ones under bottles have grown a bit and the outside "canary" has held back.
You are a bit further north from me.

Ours are out in the greenhouse but check your weather forecast, it's supposed to be quite a cold one tonight/early tomorrow morning.

I'm up in North East Scotland, my tomatoes and chillies are all in the greenhouse, I do have fleece on standby if a cold snap is forecast, last night the minimum temp in my greenhouse was 9.6, everything seems to be growing ok.

My tomatoes are out in the greenhouse for the past week.
Like Burnie I fleece them if I feel the temp is going to drop.
My first couple of tomatoes on my Maskotka plant are just turning pink.

It'll be enough to keep them alive, but cold nights will still put a halt on their growth for a week or so afterwards, even if the plants are not directly harmed.

I'd say it'll probably be fine to put them out in your greenhouse now, but I would wait until tomorrow to do it, as tonight will be a bit chilly.

I’ve been putting mine out in the blowaway, some on the patio during the day, then back in the house at night to harden them off before leaving them out for good. They’re not staying out there yet.
