  • identify greenhouse make

I am moving an old greenhouse to a new site and need to make some repairs. It's easier to get the right parts if I know the make. This greenhouse is quite old, 8ft square and uses square aluminium nuts rather than hex nuts for assembly (the bolts are still square head). Is this enough to identify the make?

Hi there , and welcome to the Vine

Most greenhouses will have the make somewhere near the door. Have you had a really careful look around? If it’s really old then it still may be there just worn/ weathered.

Failing that then maybe you could share photos with us?
(You may need to make a few more posts though before you can post piccies)

Thank you for the suggestions. I have looked for a name but found nothing.
And the greenhouse is now dismantled ready for rebuild in a week or so. Maybe pictures then
I thought it could be an early Elite, but they said not.
One other feature, the door is glazed from the inside, not from the outside as seems almost universal nowadays.
It was all glazed with mastic seal and band clips which also seemed unusual to me
Perhaps that will help narrow down the brand

I have four ancient greenhouses, all different. They have all lost any identification in the dim and distant past. Fortunately I have never had to replace any parts of the frames and for everything else I find most spares are pretty much universal.
I hope you enjoy the rebuild......meccano for grown-ups!

I love putting greenhouses together. All I ever wanted as a little girl was a meccano set instead of "girly" toys. I am obviously not "normal" as I also love assembling IKEA furniture.

Not that abnormal greenishfing . My daughter, who looks very girlie in a bikini, has a masonry drill I can hardly lift, and can parallel park articulated lorry with a full size container on.

Did most of the moving and reassembly of my donated greenhouse, although she was a bit scornful of my mathematician's approach to labeling the panes xn, yn, zn depending on their position.
I used to be quanglewangle. It's a long story

I must share some of your daughter's DNA. I could rope and sheet a wagon and drag or artic by age 11; someone had to tighten them with their superior weight though (helping my dad who was diagnosed with MS a few years later) and move them around easily including parking with little effort. Putting together a greenhouse, shed or even furniture is just joyous child's play though ( unless it was original MFI). Less said the better.

Sooo... No one recalls a greenhouse manufacturer who used square nuts?
Or can come up with a way to get to it?
                  Thanks for trying.

try AGL or Halls I think my dads had square nuts (stop it Nicos)but I can't remember what make it was, but whats more important is the size of them ... they all use a standard sized nut/bolt combo so it gcould be as simple as just buying a new packet of nuts & bolts from some one (Two Wests are pretty good I've found) and replacing them. Theyre maade out of pretty cheap metal and can easily strip the threads.

DIY sheds sell a range of bagged nut and bolt combinations. There is no need to make a fuss about where you buy them from.
                      I think they are 6mm X 15 or 20.
