Pollytunel question.

Hi all,

Have decided to build my own Pollytunel for next year but my question is this I intend on it being 8ft by 15ft, is this a good size or is it too small?.

I know that Nick the Grief will be along at some stage to tell you it isnt big enough, but there is really only one answer, and thats how big do you want it?
I am thinking of doing the same thing myself, and I am going to build as big a tunnel as I can. I am probably looking at 30ft, maybe even slightly longer.
How much do you envisage using it?
How much space do you have?
Cost?
Have you had one before, or a greenhouse before, as this will give you some idea of how much use it will have.
Security. Is it going to be in your land or open where other, possibly less sympathetic, people may be able to have access to it?
When you build it, make sure you put some pix on here for us all to see and be envious.

I know nothing about these things (except there's never enough space!), but would it be better to have two smaller ones rather than one big one? You could quarentine stuff or change the conditions as necessary...dunno really just wondering...

I was told to make it as wide as possible as the path down the middle uses quite a bit of space. The person who told me that had a 15' long by 8 ft wide tunnel. You can put quarantine area inside the tunnel without having a separate one or partition across the middle or wherever you want.

Wouldn't have thought so as this would mean there was a much bigger external surface area to overall space ratio (or the other way around but hopefully you know what I mean!) which I would have thought would make the smaller ones more likely to overheat in summer. Also would cost a heck of a lot more that way!

As already said, some people will say the bigger the better but that's not always possible and you don't want to take up too much outdoor space that you might need for something else. Plan polytunnel is a while off for me yet but am thinking possibly a 10 x 15 ft one will fit nicely on the plot but will mark it out to check on the ground before I buy.

I have two homemade jobbies. One is 20 x 10 and the second 20 x 13.

The second one is a perfect size and is wide enough to allow three beds and double doors each end which is a ventilation boon. The first and thus narrower tunnel has two beds and single doors each end. Both work well, are proper jobs but the second tunnel was made after living with the first one for a year and then improving on its design.

And no, they can never be too big.

Hi there. I know that this is an old thread but I noticed that pigletwillie made his own polytunnel. Was it considerably cheaper than buying one ?? Also..sorry prob rreeeaally dumb question, but what did you make it out of ??
I would really like a polytunnel so am weighing up costs v hassle.
Any advice would be very welcome.
