  • Shed Conversion?

I have a shed that's being used for very little at the moment.

Has anyone ever tried converting one into a 'half' greenhouse? By that I mean taking out the small window in the long side and cutting out and putting in a large glazed window and maybe putting the old window into one of the 'blank' sides?

Or am I being too ambitious and is it likely to just fall apart in the process?

well.... if it was me, it would be likely to fall apart in the process ....at first, but i am a devil for not giving into things, so why not give it a go? if it doesn't work you can always board it up again

Suppose it depends on the condition of your shed, however I'm just confused as to how your shed isn't bursting at the seems, I've got two and they're both a bit on the full side!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Sheds are a bloke thing, a man can be measured by the size of his shed or by the number he has.

The only thing about what you are thinking of doing is the strength and stability of the shed in question but if it seems a little flimsy when you start cutting out the cladding timbers, then just put 2x2 cross timbers to strengthen it up.
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

Nah, not just a bloke thing, love both of mine and OH practically never goes in either of them.

we made our greenhouse out of a shed carcass. took off the cladding and roof, left door on and covered it in polytunnel plastic, its survived 3 winters so far on top of a very windy hill. more than adequate. next year we might see if we can put in some vents as it does get a bit hot in the summer.

Damn, I only have one 6x4 I dont suppose greenhouses count do they cos I have 3 and a pollytunnel.

Old double glazed windows are excellent for making a homebrew greenhouse, ask a local glazing company if they have any old units they have removed from a house.

Concrete site agent shed, two trap toilet impersonating allotment shed, tool shed, dog shed and did have a kids play shed, but demolished it and am building a 3.6m X 2.1m custom shed from the remains and a pile of timber off freecycle.

Don't think I can manage to squeeze another one in the garden, so the next one will have to be on my second plot.......
