Hi Guys,

I was wondering if any of you have ever purchased from The Greenhouse People Ltd? I am considering a purchase, but they quote 7-9 weeks timescale and also charge £35 delivery.

Just a bit wary as this is a big purchase and I don't particularly want to be messed about. Saved long and hard didn't I!

I bought mine from Greenhouse direct I think it was and they were pretty good. 7-9 weeks sounds like they don't have them and they build to order, GHD act as agents and my greenhouse came direct from elite and it was about 3 weeks but thats because I was building the dwarf wall myself ( i'm not a bricky I hasten to add) so gave myself plenty of time. If it had been a straightforward g/h I could have had it within 10 days I think.

I got mine from the Greenhouse people a year and a bit ago, fantastic service.

I used the website to work out all the bits i wanted and it gave me a price, but i then phoned my order in and paid by credit card, i was able to ask questions directly and was happy with the answers i got.

They say 5-7 weeks to cover themselves, but i got mine in march and had a 3 week wait, in-fact you can specify a date if its available as you need to be in when they come.

When you place your order you will get a letter of confirmation and the letter will also tell you of all the extra 'bits' you need to get in advance of delivery such as some wood to stand the glass on.. some sealant, what size spanners you need.

The delivery man was very good, and carried everything around the back for me, its all wrapped up in that cellophane stuff.

They do the shows as well, Gardeners World, Hampton Court and you can visit the show site at Stoke-on-Trent if you want.

One bit of advice though, at the time of ordering i decided to wait on getting auto vents for the roof and Louvers i had bought, as my overall cost was getting high, i ended up getting a set from B&Q and they dont quite fit very well.. I should have ordered Auto vents from Greenhouse people as they would have been the correct type for the vents for the greenhouse...

I had originally set the money aside for October, had a surprise illness/hospital visit/operation/recuperation so was not in a fit state. Next thing I know it is almost 2009 and I have some trays out ready to sow some seeds!

Do any of you have opinions on toughened glass?

I paid extra for toughened glass, because of the thugs/children who live over the back.

Its heavier, you only have the one big pane to put in, no slime growing on the overlap.

However... if it does get broken you cannot buy it off the shelf so to speak as it has to be made to size. And to replace is more pricey.

The Children/thugs who live 'over the back' have since moved away.. perhaps spend the extra money on staging instead.. (wish i did).

Depends on how much traffic you have around the site of your greenhouse, only you will really know.

Cheaper to make it out of tilers laths

I've often thought about the twin wall plastic for the roof (save on shading and bubble wrap maybe?) I know a couple of folks who had toughened glass but like SS says it's not as easy to get hold of unlike 2'x2' available from any glass merchant

We're looking at the moment for our new greenhouse, so I'll look this lot up and see if it suits our sizing.

Yup, I am ummin' and ahhin' over the glass options. £99 is quite a lot more - but just how clumsy am I?

I bought this year from The Greenhouse People and was very pleased with their service and agree with all Seasprout says. Mine was a Halls on which they had a special offer and they also supplied their own leaflet with extra tips to supplement the Halls erection instructions. They have an advice line for help with erection if necessary.

Mine came a few weeks sooner than estimated. It went up in two days without problems.

I think toughened glass is a good investment, less likely to break or blow out. Also if you do manage to break a pane you wont have shards of glass over your tomatoes as toughened glass shatters into chunky crumbs that will not cut you as you clear them up!
