Hi All,
I am very new to gardening - the height of my previous attempts were sunflowers with the kids etc. Last summer though I did plant up some pots & hanging baskets with garden centre brought plants & must say loved the end result! This year I have decided to be brave and work on our garden (apart from cutting the lawn / hedges etc and planting the odd small bush DH & I have done nothing with it since we moved in 10 years ago!! My granddad was a very keen gardener, but unfortunately he is no longer around to ask
In the past I have tried growing from seed on my windowsill, but the seedlings always grow too leggy & too fast! The only windowsill I can put them on is in the kitchen which does not seem to get much sun.
My dad was lucky enough to have a greenhouse when he moved 2 years ago, but apart from changing the glass to greenhouse Perspex for the sake of my kids when they visited he has not used it & said I can have it. I plan to move it around my house next month.
My main questions are: Can I grow seedlings from scratch in an unheated greenhouse or do I need to start them off in the house till they just show through the soil? When is the best time to sow the seeds for these conditions (I want to grow things like busy lizzie, petunias, gaillardia & foxgloves to name a few)
I live in Stoke on Trent & like most of the country we are having bad frost at the moment, so I am unsure as to save it would be “safe from frost” for this area.
Any help & advise you guys could offer a novice would be most appreciated!
Toni
