My polytunnel is now about 12 months old and I am wondering if I should clean the polythene this winter. There seems to be a little green algae on the outside and other dirt. Should I use some mild detergent and a gentle brush or spray some detergent using pressure washer and rinse gently or should I just leave nature to take it's course?

I've done mine for the last five years with a cheap squidgy brush and fairy liquid and a finish off with a hose. It has worked well, but REMEMBER - go carefully - I managed to get carried away last year and got a hole in the plastic from not paying attention and going at it a bit too energetically.~

Mine is just a year old but since we live by the sea had salt deposits on as well as the green stuff etc. I took a soft sweeping brush and a basin of warm water with a little Ecover washing liquid (I didn't want to contaminate the ground as I am planting early) and washed down inside and outside (as far up as I could reach). My hubby then gave it a quick spray down with the hose. I've been keeping the door open for most of the time daily to keep air circulating and let moisture out in the mornings. Seemed to work fine.Suzie Spud
