6'3" wide V 8'5" wide

Hi peeps

I'm about to dive in a buy our first greenhouse.

What are the real benefits of a wider greenhouse. With the sizes above does it really make that much difference or is it just the room you have between beds?

Is 8'5" wide enough to grow more than one row in each bed ?

I'm looking at 10' in length of either of the above width and wondering if it worth the extra £200 for the 8'5".

Your thoughts please ...

I've got a 6x10 greenhouse and believe me, 6' isn't very wide. You can't have too much room in the greenhouse. That extra 2' width will give you a lot more space to move around.

I would go for the 8' - a 6' always feels cramped in when things start to grow, I know, I've got one and sometimes there is not enough room to swing a cat (mind you, she was getting a bit fed up with being swung )

My brother's father in law has an 8' wide one and he reckons that it's a stupid width and that he can't get anymore in it than his old 6' one. Only know this from what he's said but he said he wishes he'd gone for longer rather than wider. Not an option for me, the space was only wide enough for 6' anyway!

Thats what I was thinking. I could fit in an 8' but only at the expense of other growing space on the plot. To be honest toms and cues are not my thing anyway so I may go for the 6' and keep the space for another row of somthing I like (e.g. french beans or 1st early spuds).

then i'd not bother, and not get one at all and grow more stuff in it's place, or get a polytunnel,(my 5m x 4m one was only about £50) that you can take down when you don't need it any more for starting stuff off.

A 6ft is ok, but I'd have the 8ft given the chance - later in the season it does get very crowded for getting in and doing the watering etc. Mine is 6ft, and you can see how crowded it is on these pics.
Don't forget a greenhouse isn't just for toms and cuces, you can start off early crops of salads, carrots, dwarf beans, early potatoes, in tubs ready to move outside at the right time, or in permanent beds.

I have an 8ft and a 6ft Greenhouse, believe me the 8 ft one is luxury compared to the 6ft one. the 6ft one is much cheaper to heat than the 8ft so I guess it's your choice

I think the pics from SarzWix show that once your main plants start to bush out, there's no room for anything else. My choice would have been for the wider one but I didn't have the £unds

It is the 11th commandment that whatever size greenhouse you have, it isnt big enough.
My current g/h is only 6ft wide, and I really really wish I could get a bigger wider one.
Budget and space are clearly a consideration, but I would get the biggest surface area I could afford/fit in.

go for the widest and longest the pocket or room wil allow. I stepped up from a 8x6 to a 10x8 and wish I ahd gone bigger. I would recommend that if poss you have double doors as trying to get though a single door some times leaves you wishing you'd bought bigger.
