Whats th best base for a new greenhouse

I am looking to buy a new greenhouse shortly. The site is currently clear with a gravel base . Is this suitable? I have heard the foundation should be concrete with slabs on top - sounds a lot of work.

not sure what the proper way is but i have put mine straight on to the soil and have had no problems

Hiya Am thinking of a greenhouse myself here in suny wales. The experts say a base of flagstones is best. However I was not sure so got in touch with the greenhouse peole Greenhouses by The Greenhouse People Ltd they have a great website whch if full of info. plus questions and answers too. You can either bed down on flags or make foundations for it with cement. I you want a very easy option you can make a wooden base for the greenhouse. The wooden base can be attached to several pegs driven deep into the ground to stop any rocking. Think of the base like a raised bed. It will stop the greenhouse blowing away etc. It will eventually it will rot but not for 20 years. If you make a permanent base, you will have problems if you choose to change greenhouses later on.
