I've seen plastic bottles with slits in the side and flaps opened up like little doors.
Mounted on a cane they make a windmill for scaring birds. I think they make a noise when spinning as well.
Peter Purvis and John Noakes (Get down Shep!) would probaly know how to make them!
I've even seen a greenhouse made with plastic bottles strung together

              Basic, but useful.

The 2L ones (coke or lemonade) make a diddy cloche with either end cut off. Bottom is best as it stops overheating (a bit) and allows for insertion of a cane. Top is ok, but fixing then involves stickyback plastic.

They are even better as fill and move on watering aids when buried cap end down after loosing the bottom.

The bigger ones are even better 3L upwards.

What I really want to get hold of are the huge ones, about 18" diameter, that sit on top of water coolers, but we don't have that style of water cooler and the empties always seem to be collected anyway.
Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

The big ones would make good 'bell cloches' favoured by the Victorians, who's cloches were a tad more ornate!

We've got some of those water cooler things at work and being cheeky I asked the man who collects the empties but he said that the company refill them as they're quite expensive. He asked me what I wanted them for and when I told him 'cloches' he looked at me as if I'd just dropped off another planet

Sorry Dexterdog, all my water comes from the tap and is flaming disgusting!

Alway fancied some ornate bell cloches though....another project for another day alas!!!. Are they not called teraniums or something? Shouldn't be too hard to make, bit of glass cutting, copper earthing strip frames with soldered joints?

Yeah, maybe when I retire and get sick of pouncing on weeds....I may have a go at that!

Eureka!! I've got about twenty demijohns stashed from my wine making days! (The others still have wine in but I've forgot what it is! Parsnip & Rosehip from about 10 yrs ago I think, probably parsnip vinegar now!!!)

Do you reckon the old trick of pouring boiling water in the botom would cut the bottom off or resort to a glasscutter?
