  • Artificial Light?

My window sills are very narrow and it is difficult to put tender seedlings on them to establish somewhat before moving out into the cold plastic greenhouse.

I was wondering if it is possible to use a special light bulb (UV) to stimulate growth when I can't get the seedlings near natural light?

I have some leggy brussel sprouts which are desperate for light, but I am having difficulty keeping them warm and giving them enough light.

Really can't wait until I have bought my own house with a garden big enough for a large greenhouse where I can have a heater and not have this problem.

    Cheers

I like to try, might not get far, but I like to try.

It's possible to use LED lights, I've just been looking at them on eBay, they're much cheaper than the traditional grow lights.

Or you can get full kits quite cheaply too.

Don't be put off by what they think you might be growing with them

I was told to germinate brassicas indoors then put them somewhere sheltered to grow on slow and strong. They don't need warmth as much as light once they are through.

i have 2 of these small ones, and they are very good, my plants are growing strong and healthy, the only thing i would say is, get the biggest one you can afford, the small ones have a limited range, and really need a cupboard lined with foil to get the best out of them, but i think they are great

If you can dedicate some more space you could try a T5 solution like the 'lightwave T5'.

Just purchased a couple of the 4-tube units, the build quality is good and comes with suspension wire mounts.

It's a bit early to be sowing sprouts ... do them in April when you won't need artificial light
