Greenhouse base on soil?

I am taking the plung this year, and moving the greenhouses into a sunnier area of the garden.

They have always been on slabs before, but I want to grow directly into the borders now.

I have the normal metal base you buy extra with them. Can I level off, and just put them straight onto bare soil ok? Both are 6x8 with normal glass.

I think it might be best if you could lay the base on a thin trench of hard core/gravel as this is less likely to swell/shrink.

Ours is just on the metal base on soil, but here and there is rests on bricks to make sure it stays level.

Mine is just on the soil, it's been up for 4 years without any problems, but the soil was very compacted clay, and we just skimmed it off until completely level. It is on the metal base.

The one that was at the house when we moved in is on soil with a couple of bricks along the edge. It's been up for about 15 - 20 years as is as wonky as .. I keep toying with the idea of takig it down and putting a proper "foundation" but can't be bothered. If I was doing it from scratch I would do it properly and lay at least some bricks along all the sides.

Along the lines of the sleepers, fence posts seemed the way to go, but not at £10.00 ish each

Found 4 house bricks, so I have one in each corner, and the base sitting on those. I will add more as and when I find any

Looking ok though, just need to clean off the frame & glass and refit it.

Thanks for the suggestions, bit of a budget job sadly but hopefully there will be much less problems with everything drying out in pots.

Mine is on soil with a 24 inch /60cm length of angle iron in each corner and halfway down each side bolted to the base and concreted into a one foot/30 cm square and deep hole.This stands on an open allotment site and hasn't moved in ten years.
