I'm totally gutted - the new people have just moved into the house down the road. There was a 10 x 8 greenhouse (a few broken panes but it had staging etc) in the garden which i've had my eye on for ages and secretly hoped that the new people wouldn't be into gardening. Called today to ask the young couple if they wanted to sell it but one of our neighbhours had beaten us to it and got it for her brother for free I should have put a note throught their door before they moved in as someone had suggested

    Ah, rotten luck Martini

Have you tried posting on your local freecycle for one?

Hi Shortie - not done freecycle yet but will give it a go. I've tried loot and ebay but no luck yet. On the upside I got a decent pallet from work which my OH says he'll make into a cold frame for me - sort of compensation

Sorry to hear that martini - it's sod's law isn't it? I was getting cheesed off regarding getting a greenhouse, but one turned up on ebay eventually! Something will turn up! Have you tried tonights LEP? (the yellow bit in the middle?) DDL

          Hi Martini,
I got double glazing units free from a window company (the ones they were taking out obviously) and they were glad to get rid of them, they made a good kind of greenhouse and they had ventilation.

Following on from that martini you could perhaps try Planet conservatories/windows on Walton Summit. DDL

It is a bit frustrating martini. I'm still waiting for one to turn up. Keep missing them on freecycle. Know a builder who picked one up from a client so asked him to let know if he got offered another one, no luck yet. Have even tried suggesting to the folks that vouchers towards one would make a lovely b'day pressie but no luck there yet.

One will turn up. In the meantime we will have to content ourselves with working out where we would put it and what we would plant in it. Once you get one it will be the best planned greenhouse going probably and with all the info and advice on the forum no doubt great things will be expected.

Thanks for cheering me up Earthbabe I've starting asking people in work and if all else fails will put up some wanted ads in the supermarkets - there must be hundreds if not thousands of unused greenhouses sitting in people's gardens - you could actually start a business by buying them all up and then reselling them On a brighter note my OH has cheered me up by making a cold frame out of a pallet - as he says 'its ugly but functional'

I made my first cold frames using a pile of bricks and some polycarbinate(?) sheeting! Didn't look brill but did the job perfectly! Did get a large-ish plastic greenhouse - brill till the strong winds blew the d**m thing away! Fortunately had just got the real one! Just watch and wait martini - if I see one on ebay will let you know by PM! DDL
PS with everyone else's help something should turn up!
