  • Cheap Large Greenhouse for my allotment

    Hi,

I'm after the biggest sized greenhouse possible for my allotment and want to spend around £150. I've found a 12 x 6 from norfolk greenhouses, the stanard one which is this price delivered. I've read the instructions are rubbish, but i'm quite handy when it comes to building things like that. Just want to know how good they are once they are up? Are they flimsy and fragile?

Also been looking at the cheaper polytunnels on Ebay which i know blow away easily so would have to set in the ground. But they only look a short term solution and wont be delivered untill end of april(priced bout £85)

What i really wanted to do was build my own polytunnel, but after pricing up materials it would end up costing a fortune. Already scrounged loads of scaffold boards for my raised beds and not to good at it.

Any other large cheap greenhouses out there that i've missed?

    Cheers,
    KK

My local freecycle often has greenhouses. As long as you're prepared to dismantle and collect you could get one for free!

Whatever you get, you need to bolt or cement it in place, or it will end up in the next county.

I've got the Norfolk Standard 12 on my allotment and it's brilliant. It's in it's 3rd year now and hasn't budged an inch even in the highest winds. Ours has the tails buried rather than paving slabs. If you have a look at my profile, there's an album called Bottom Plot which has some pictures of it. I'd highly recommend it, especially if you're not phased by the rubbish instructions!
You can bodge an automatic opener onto the window too, with the help of a small batten.
Go for it i say, it's tonnes better than those ebay polytunnels!

If you want a bigger greenhouse at minimal cost, how about building a polyshed on the back. You only need to concrete the corners down and bolt the greenhouse to it. Have a look on my blogspot.

Here you go Krok, this is it almost finished, you can just see the trench in front where it's not been filled in yet.
