  • White dusting on soil in tunnel

I had nothing growing in my tunnel since the autumn and had the door closed so that there was a lot of condensation at times. When I went to open it up I found what is like white icing sugar sprinkled on the surface in places. Is it salts residue from condensation or is it a mould or fungus of some kind? Should I remove top soil or just dig in? Thanks!

Sounds like a salts residue that has precipittaed from the soil. This would be washed away if it was exposed to the elements outdoors!

I think this is the main reason why the bedsoil needs to be changed every year or couple of years as the soil becomes sour!

Don't do as I did and dig in well rotted muck thinking this would save me from this chore.........it didn't, and with no rainfall indoors and very few worms the muck didn't incorporate into the soil and the whole excercise was a waste of time.
