Chase Barn Cloches & Acylic..

Question, bear with it

I have inherited around 15 Chase Barn Cloches 10 with Glass full enough to run them (Thats 40 pieces x 12x24inches) so quite fortunate.

The other 5 I am thinking of replacing with 3mm acrylic or something similar, two reasons, if we get some little vandal on the plot it won't smash (Or branches hitting from trees et al), has anyone done this?

I imagine it should be as good as glass theoretically speaking from a light perspective heat might be slightly less due to insulation value but I can live with that.

Question:

In a chase barn cloche design it looks like the handle (and clips) exert pressure down onto the structure to make it rigid. I assume acrylic is ok for this? It doesn't warp over time etc?

What thickness would you recommend?

I have used acrylic and glass in Chase cloches for some time.
Suggest you put glass for verticals and acrylic for the 'roof' as this will make it more stable.

Acrylic softens in heat and may sag a bit. Try and beg, borrow or even buy some spine backs (from Staples, for example) and fix these down the roof sides to stiffen them. Also good for the glass walls as they give protection from chipping against the adjoining set.

I wish some good fairy would give me £200+ worth of Chases!
