  • Unsafe Greenhouse

Hi all,I have a very old shaky greenhouse at the bottom of my plot which is very unsafe.I would like to take it down but dont know where to start as it is a self build one made up of old window frames.Has anyone here got any ideas about tkaing it down safely?

Step 1: Tie rope round frames at the front
Step 2: Tie other end to car.
    Step 3: Drive Home.
Magically the greenhouse will be dismantled next time you go up there.

No seriously, are you able to remove the glass? If so, get that out and it be a whole lot safer, esp if it falls down. Try and look for parts which aren't supporting other peices and remove these first. Maybe the roof and then the walls.

Not much help, but something to think about. Good luck

I like to try, might not get far, but I like to try.

From the top down............I know I've done it! And be prepared to break a bit of glass, so gloves are a must!

PLEASE don't forget safety glasses!!! I would have lost my eye if I hadn't been wearing any earlier this year!

Where Possible take what glass you can out. Try the roof first then the walls. Failing which tie a rope to the corner support and pull diagonally away from the greenhouse
Never test the depth of the water with both feet

If you think you will break some, lay some plastic sheets or newspaper down to catch most of it. Might make cleaning up easier.

Just watch what you are doing...........don't want you taking a sheet of glass out then another sliding down and beheading you! It will probably have tiny nails to hold glass in then putty around edges. Scrape the putty out carefully then extract the nails with pincers. with a bit of luck you should be able to save 90% of the glass!

I worked in a heavy engineering factory(Brush) for 24 years & saw many nasty injuries due to people NOT wearing the right safety gear.
