How Hot ?

I'm a newby. My new/1st greenhouse (6' x 10' with safety glass 2 roof vents and a louver) is up

A quick question for all you people who know best ...

I've got auto-openers on the roof vents and louver. At what temp should I set them to start opening ?

I'll be growing toms and cues if that helps.

Bob, good question.... ie one I'll be interested to see answered by others!!!

I've the exact same size greenhouse with 2 roof lights with autovents on the leeward side of the roof and an autovent louvre window at the bottom of the end panel. The door gets fully opened by me around 8am every day.

I had mine set to open at around 21 degC last year without any problems but I've just turned them up to a higher temperature because they weren't fully closing until about 17 degC in the evening.

I've also just put shading up on the afternoon sun side as plants were getting scorched.

When I got to my polytunnel this morning at 9.05am it was already 79 degF it wasn't that sunny until a bit later left at 12.30 and even with two doors open it was 94degF. So far for the last few weeks it hasn't been below 65degF when I go up so i guess a greenhouse would be even hotter.

I open my doors each morning after school run and my OH shuts them at about 7.30pm.

How hot? For Cucumbers and Tomatoes I would go for a 23/18 day/night. If you were growing greenhouse melon varieties, which have a higher temperature requirement for optimal growth and development, I would go for higher temps, up to 30/20 day/night should be fine.
