  • norfolk greenhouses and the wind!

A panel has just blown out of my new Norfolk greenhouse - if it's this bad now, I'm not looking forward to the winter!

Just wondered if anyone could help - I've got a norfolk greenhouse with the slide down window which due to it being a lean-to, I've had no choice but to face into the prevailing wind. Last night, I'd shut the door but the window must have slid down so was half open - obviously the winds blown in and the pressure got too much and has blown out a panel. The panel was secured with a screw but it's broken the panel around where the screw was - it was screwed tightly and siliconed in - don't know what else I can do to keep them in?

Also what's best to do when it's windy - open the door and window so the wind blows through or close both?

    Hope that made sense

If you can't move it .... it might be best to leave 2 ends open, so the wind blows through and out, instead of building up inside.

My experience has been to ensure that everything is tightly closed to the wind. I don't work with automatic opening vents etc. and keep everything tightly closed (like today) when the wind is ferocious. But I have been out twice today watering to make sure nothing dries up as the sun has also been pretty ferocious too.

I had a greenhouse a number of years ago where one panel blew out in a hurricane and then the whole greenhouse exploded - literally - whole glass panels were found in the field and road beyond our house.
