i grew roma vf last couple of years - they're the only variety of plum tomatoes i've found so far - didn't bother pinching out - they did ok, but toms not much bigger than normal round toms and not a massive crop
i always stake tomatoes so i'll stake them again this year
Olivade is a good plum variety which I grew from seed
Hi guys - i think i have found a stockist for the RAF tom's - here is the email i got -
"I am pleased to let you know that our Spanish supplier has given me information about the tomato you were enquiring about – (your Australian enquiry).
RAF is a type of tomato with very poor shelf live, flat, very ribbed and with green shoulders but very tasty.
This type of tomato is produced in the south of Spain from December to April.
We do supply RAF tomatoes but your suggestion PATA NEGRA is actually a brand name given to a RAF type tomato.
I've just planted out my polytunnel with various varieties of Tomatoes, one of which is 'Roma VF Improved'(from Tuckers seeds)I was wondering if anyone knows if it is best to grow it as a cordon or a bush?
Rat, don';t know a lot about this variety, but would think there are a lot of better varieties you could have grown, especially as you are so far north.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
These came free with Grow your Own March 17. The leaflet which comes with the magazine says that they are 'cordons, so its important to pinch out the side stems for ultimate productivity .' However the seed websites all say that they are bush and should not be pinched out. Confused!
