I used ***** to clean the pots and waterbutts at the beginning of the season. It seems to be okay. I wouldn't mind trying the sulphur bomb, does anybody know anywhere that sells them...

      to Brooklynodog

I use neat on the soft twine doesnt take a lot, a loop pushed into the bottle does.

I read in a Lawrence Hills book how to make a device which rids things of Flea beetle organically which I am about to try. It uses sticky paper.

It is one pest that seems to hop around our allotments quite a bit.

I notice that throughout this thread that there seems to be a tacit attitude - anything that useful isn't really toxic/ we wouldn't use anything really toxic...
Personally I have a tin, but would be loathe to use it except where I want to kill everything eg reusing pots, disinfecting a greenhouse, staging etc. And I am under no illusions - we haven't a clue how many toxic byproducts there are in its manufacture, it may be based on "natural" plant phenols but then ricin is a "natural herb extract", and we really haven't a clue if its' use is contributing to future ecological mayhem in soil bacteria, bugs, human genetic damage, etc. We are mainly going by the "I don't see anyone dying here" and "Ooh, dead handy, let's try it on this!" instincts, aren't we ? Which is fine until you start dealing with concentrated chemicals and radionucleides...
(For the record moderator, I felt that post you censored added balance to the debate - informative and no more abusive than ntg's rant. Could you not have just edited it ?)

There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.

I had a conversation with the armillatox people, an old customer wanted to use it to kill the moss on their lawn as they had done for years, the lady said you still can, they are not allowed to put it on the bottle anymore!
I'm using armillatox, ***** and creosote, obvioulsy not at the same time! think we should all tell brussels to do one!!!

If Brussels stops even one person using this stuff then it's done a good job.

I think what needs to be remembered is that many things have been taken off the market because the manufacturers simply cannot afford to go through the process of proving their products are safe. It isn't necessarily so that they have been proved to be unsafe. So far as armillatox and ***** is concerened, they are still approved for cleaning and I for one continue to use them for that purpose.

Yes, i dont go round slopping the stuff all over the place!
***** for the drains mainly, 'tox for the greenhouse and creosote for the fence.
I wouldnt use them in the soil, but thats just personal choice.

                    *****:
Apply away from fish and pets, especially cats.
Not for indoor use (it can cause breathing difficulties in some people).
                    Avoid contact with plant life.
Do not use if pregnant. source: in link

I prefer to use white vinegar for cleaning & disinfecting
