  • A timely reminder re your greenhouse (when you've got wind!)

I've got a Norfolk Ultimate greenhouse (the one with the rigid pvc panels). Extremely pleased with it.

However, with the excessive high winds we've been having, and still have, I thought I'd remind peeps to keep an eye on theirs...

I popped out last to tuck the babies in only to discover one of the panels had 'popped' out. A bit of a burger to get it back in but all done now. I thought I'd just have a quick look round the rest of the g/h and found that an alarming number of the screws which hold these g/h together had worked quite loose. I'd only checked them last weekend so this wind had been evilly trying to undo all my good works.

So, just to remid those who have similar structures to check regularly that you haven't got any screws loose!!

I hope this wind stops soon - I'm at work now having visions of my g/h doing an impression of Dorothy's house in the Wizard of Oz

Is it me or do the current winds seem to be stronger than the reported wind speeds on the weather?

It's probably just my over sensitivity at only just glazing the greenhouse last weekend.

Defo glad that I popped blobs of sealant over my W clips.
Excuse me, could we have an eel? You've got eels down your leg.

Nothing worse for the heart than sitting in a polycarbonate greenhouse in a strong wind.

The whole thing flexes, relaxes, rattles and groans.

Mine is now adorned in 4" clear duct tape which has worked well if not a little unsightly.

I had wind last week! Most of my Gardman panels blew out after the door came off and had to be recovered from neighbouring gardens - we used silicon this time when we put it back together again.

I wedge long bamboo canes into the frame, diagonaly across the panels that bear the brunt of the wind. This has prevented any blow-outs for at least three years.
A good beginning is half the work.

Great ideas.. Am going to have to do something to strengthen it, it's too stressful worrying about it! I've managed a sneaky 'trip to the Post Office' for work and popped home just to check all is okay. Blimely, those Post Office queues are long these days
