I seem to remember being told big - but as I don't have a working greenhouse (still under renovation) it passed between my ears pretty quickly

I am not basing this suggestion on anything I've heard, but would suggest big, as it's a bit like having a winter duvet and a summer duvet to compare. I guess the big bubbles will trap and therefore retain more warmth. Just my thinking anyway.

I was always told not to use bubbble wrap as it traps moisture and doesn't let the plant breathe. We have used fleece this year and straw for extra protection on the really delicates.

i mean as insulation for the glass not round plants. id thought the same thing about getting big bubbles so its nice to hear other people do to. thats what il get then. cant lose my beloved heliotropes!

Seem to recall that Nick the Grief always advocates big bubbles for greenhouses! No doubt he will be on later and confirm!

Nick does recommend big bubbles, but being tight on the £ front am using what I was given by a friend - that and fleece as well!
My OH managed to build my greenhouse within a greenhouse yesterday at the far end of my big greenhouse, so any plants went in there.
Left the heater on last night, went to get some more paraffin today - mmmm £5 a container full! SO have wrapped all plants in bubble wrap. Going to give that a go and see how I get on.
OH has just come home from work - bless! he's got me 2 mini plastic greenhouses for £10 each!!! Get yerselves down to Wilkinsons! DDL

Aw burnie - what a shame! maybe they will move further north one day! I could always get my OH to get you a greenhouse, but think the postage costs would far outweigh the £cheap of the greenhouse. DDL

                      Hi Guys,

Yes Big bubbles is better than The small as i doesn't cut out some much light & tends to insulate better. Having said that on GW las night they never said anything about that & even suggested leaving the south side un insulated which is a new on on me.

If you have staging up & there is nothing growing under it you can use polystyrene sheets to insulate that bit which is better still.. But I guess when it comes down to it, ANything is better than nothing.

                        hurrah - its arrived!

My bubble wrap has just arived! very excited although slightly peeved at Harrod Hort as they were out of alliplugs so now i have to get them off fleabay

I wanted to get large bubbles but it was really difficult to find a supplier of the 3-ply stuff anyway, letalone with large bubbles AND sells it by the metre! Harrod Horticultural ended up being the cheapest.

We'll be busy over the weekend!

edited to add i've got the small bubbles but 3-ply

DDL, what plants have you got in the greenhouse ?

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Too late Nick! I've already bought some off Fleabay

They weren't expensive and should arrive before the weekend so i don't mind.

Who/where are Kays? i've never heard of or seen them?
