melons & cucumbers

can anyone help I have read that you cannot grow cucumbers & melons together in a polytunnel as they cross pollenate is this true

I checked this with realseeds a few weeks ago and they said that although they can cross they've never had a problem and of course it wouldn't effect this seasons fruit and if you wanted to save the seed would you get a problem.

If you are still concerened then hand pollinate the melon flowers

thanks marathon I will go ahead and plant both I wouldn't save the seeds so thats won't be a problem

I checked this out as well the other week.

Apparently cucumbers & melons don't cross polinate.

I had the same dilema, i had grown the cucumbers and melon from seed in the poly tunnel, i just happened to be glancing through my garden book, when it said dont grow them in the same place as the melon cross polinates the cumcumber and it makes them go bulbous at one end. i couldnt bare to part with one or the other, so i bought a cheap pop up plastic greenhouse to put my melons in, as i didnt want to risk it.

I grow both in the same greenhouse but I hand polonate the Melon by hand and do not have any problems.
