I always have a max / min thermometer in the greenhouse. Last year the one I'd been using for years went funny and started reading about 10 deg different on the max and min sides. I'd had it for about 10 years so assumed that it'd broken so invested in a new one. However the new one isn't reading right either and I think it has bubbles in the tubes. Does anybody know what I can do to get rid of them and get it back working OK. Note that I've already tried putting it in the freezer to force it one direction and have tapped it for England (I've probably got RSI now ). Help needed as it's really annoying me. Thanks

Max / Min Thermometer Problems
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Mine went a bit funny after I accidentally dropped it. I held the button in and SHOOK it downwards with quite some force... It seemed to work for a little while, then went funny again I'm going to invest in a digital one as soon as I can afford it...

Hmmmm, maybe digital would be the way to go but they are rather expensive and the previous one had worked perfectly for so long.................

Minimum Maximum Thermometer
This is the cheapest ordinary one I've found, I might get one as a temporary replacement. Save the digital one as a christmas pressie request

I still have air bubbles, the thing that records the temp on the max side is now about an inch below the top of the max temp reading (don't ask, I've no idea) and the plastic on the bottom of the thermometer has warped in the heat (and I didn't let it touch the pan) so think I'm going to have to buy a new one

Mine (B&Q) always go funny after a few months outside ... I have always taken them back for a refund, but can't be bothered this time (the latest one shows 2 different readings for regular and digital)Attached FilesLast edited by Two_Sheds; 22-05-2009, 04:56 PM.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

If the £9.99 digital one is the from B&Q (and other GCs) then they have recently changed their design.
The OLD design (still available in GCs) has two round buttons sticking out of the front for reset and degC/degF which I think let moisture into my first one after two years.
The NEW design has a sealed front covering the button mechanism.
The old one lasted me two years but went wrong over winter. The new one is... well... new so can't say how much better it is.The proof of the growing is in the eating.
Leave Rotten Fruit.
Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium - potash.
Autant de têtes, autant d'avis!!!!!

I think I'm going to need a digital. Mine reads a bit different each side so I add a couple of degrees to what appears to be the min and it seems about right.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
