shading

I have got some shading for the gh, it reached over 50 in there today with the window and doors open. The peepers look pretty droopy and so do the tomatoes!

The stuff I have bought is in 2.5ft strips and attaches into the grooves of the alliminium. Unfortunately my greenhouse doesnt have them! I had heard that windolene works well as a shade paint what do you guys think?

Could you rig up net curtain wires to put the netting on? You can get really long lengths of it off ebay for a couple of quid, with hooks and eyes included. Would be a shame to waste the netting.
Windolene does work, I've heard, but never tried it because mine is polythene and stuff like that doesn't stick!

Cheers Sarz, think I will try windowlene for now cos I cant do the roof without a ladder and no one around to help me, hold the ladder etc I can use a chair for the insides

Owt's better than nowt in this weather the windolene will do the job until you have a chance to look at the netting

I tried to get greenhouse shading called Coolglass but was told it is not on the market anymore. when I mentioned this to an old lad at the allotments he suggested diluting emulsion paint which would work the same as Coolglass

Hi Spangles. I would have to paint the inside of my conservatory roof and am afraid of its depositing multitudes of little flakes over the floor. What do you think? I'd love some if you think it would be okay.

Wilkos sell coolglass. I hang bean netting on the hottest side of my GH and am growing sweet peas and morning glory up it to create an attractive and wildlife friendly shading. I also grow a grapevine across the back which really helps.

Shading

I purchased a 45% shading cloth a few years ago from a greenhouse supplier online. The 45% is recommended for vegetables. It is very durable and will last for years. The tomatoes and aubergines do not droop from the mid day sun.
