  • Folding Greenhouse Shelf

Was looking for opinions on the "Bruno" folding greenhouse shelf before buying one. It can be seen here Bruno" The Folding Shelf | Greenhouse Equipment | Gardening Extras

Quickly running out of space in my greenhouse and thought that it looked good (if somewhat expensive ! ) and would give me a bit more space to store plants.

    Thanks

    Hi jasyk34,
Sorry don't know about this shelf, however, I bought metal shelving from Ikea for a fraction of the normal price for staging. I've moved some outside the greenhouse to create more room for toms etc in grow bags on the floor. Shelves are now home to plants that are hardening off. Each set has 3 shelves and I've been really happy with them.

Looks like a very expensive way to mount a fridge shelf on your greenhouse frame.

I use the frames from my old mini greenhouses as shelving/staging in the greenhouse. It goes outside when my toms are big enough and I stand it in the shade as a place to put my new sowings of salads and brassicas because they don't like to get too hot.

Likewise - albeit a midi greenhouse that I have.

            RE: "Bruno" The Folding Shelf

            Hi
Just to be clear, Gardening Extras is owned by me - so I am obviously biased

There are several different shelving or staging options available on the market, and this is not one of the cheapest, (but cheapest is not always best!) the main advantages of an item like this are to enable the user to grow with the maximum flexibility in the greenhouse.
So when you need more space for seedling and such earlier in the season, you can have the shelf out - but later in the season when you need space for taller plants you can simply fold it away.

as an cheaper alternative have a look at the fold away shelf or the fold away staging neither are as robust but but are less expensive.

I got me a folding greenhouse shelf like the one at Gardening Extras for £10 at B&Q - looks almost identical. I don't like B&Q but £10 was the best price I could find.

I've got two that are simple frames that allow for 5 full size seed trays to drop in to. Not sure if you can get them now.

I've got one - I think it's a B&Q one too and it's brilliant. It does help when you've lots of seedlings and then just gets out of the way when you need the space

Does the one you got from B&Q attach to the greenhouse frame or is it a stand alone shelf ? Was looking for the one that attaches to the frame so that i can overwinter some seedlings and then fold it away to allow for growing tomatoes, etc.

It attaches to the frame with crophead bolts and has two hooks and hinges so that you can fold it away when you don't need it. It is about 4ft long.

It is very similar (almost identical, if not identical to) the one in Iain's post. The only difference is that it is a standard finish (eg not green).

If you are trying to locate it in a B&Q, I found mine near the other greenhouse stuff (nuts/bolts, paraffin, heaters etc) and it was in a long thin cardboard box.

                      I hope this helps!

Mr D, thanks. Will have a wee nosey in my local B&Q.
