Hello and welcome Digger. I'm sure you'll get lots of advice but it will help to know something about your lottie. Can you tell us which direction it faces - where does the sun come from, is there any wind shelter, that kind of thing. The experts will be along in a minute.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Oh dear!
Hi Digger - no I'm not an expert but do have a polytunnel in a VERY windy place! You need to find out what your predominant wind direction is and generally lie it alongside. IE our predominant wind direction is SE and SW so the tunnel lies on E-W line. That way the sides of the tunnel and hopefully the strongest bits! lie against the wind.
Mine survived 90 mph winds back in October from the NW. You will see from other posts relating to polytunnels that I spent alot of time working out the wind direction and where to put the tunnel before I finally decided on a position.
Good luck~

Hi Digger,
Welcome to the Vine,
To some extent it doesn't really matter as you'll be limited to the lie of your lottie. Ideally it should run East West so the long side gets maximum sunlight (important this time of year) but it probably won't make a lot of difference.
I don't have a ploy tunnel yet) but I have got two greenhouses & neither of them run this way they are both North South as that's the only way I could have them & it still gets to over 100f in the summer so I wouldn't worry to much. Far more important is the direction of the wind as Jennie says, as it could cause troubles.
Something else to remember. If it's in light shade in the summer it won't be a problem but this time of the year it won't see any sunlight & thet will be a problem so site it in the clear - mark out your proposed site with some babmoo canes with plastic bottles on the top so you can see if it catches shade this time of year. The site I was going to pick for mine turned out to be totally useless in the end but thats all bay the way now as I'm moving plots hopefully.

HI digger and welcome. I'm glad you asked as I will be getting a greenhouse in the new year and this is probably relevant. I will also have to look in more depth at the undercover section before I do anything.Bright Blessings

Thanks all for your responses, i should now be able to site it appropriately just didn't want to put it up and find out a few months down the line that it had to move. In terms of the wind i am planning on planting a small open fruiting hedge close by to act as a bit of a break whilst not blocking too much light. Once again thanks all and i hope i can return the advice somewhere down the line
