  • Staging

    Hi All
I'm new to growing veg and have just bought a 6X8 greenhouse. I have no garden as such so will be growing in containers all the time.
I would like to try growing the following. Carrot, Lettus, Tomatos, Garlic and orher herbs, Chills, and I have a bucket of spuds on the go for the last month.
In view of the above, I am looking for recomendations on how to lay out the staging in the GH.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Pics would be great.

My greenhouse is the same size as yours and is laid out as follows:

A large aluminium, (I think) catering table with lower shelf, and a smaller fold up table on one side (both recycled) take up all the space on one side. On the other I have 'staging' made up from the frames and racks of 3 tier mini greenhouses (again recycled). Above the staging and tables on both sides I've suspended thin chains, with clear plastic piping and small bamboo canes (cut to size) to form 'cradles'. I use these to hold gutting in which I start peas etc, or to create suspended shelves (using more racking from mini greenhouses).

I don't use any grow anything ‘in’ the floor, or in grow bags on the floor either. I just don't feel I have the room. (Oh for a bigger GH!!) At the moment the GH is full of tomato plants, melons, peppers, young pumpkin plants, seed trays etc. etc., mostly plants that won't grow for me outside. Earlier in the year it is just packed with seedlings. The beauty of the mini greenhouse frames is that I can remove the upper shelves to allow growing room for taller plants, and I can remove or rearrange both them and the tables easily, to suit my requirements.

There are no hard and fast rules about layout. A lot depends on what you want to grow and the facilities, etc available. You’ll probably find, like me, that as the growing seasons change, your use of the greenhouse will too. Whatever you decide on, leave room for flexibility.
A good beginning is half the work.
Praise the young and they will make progress.

      Hi Sweetiepea
Thanks for the reply. Did a search and got some good ideas from pics posted before. It's all about flexability and I'll do my best.

      Thanks again.
